Are you an aspiring 3D render artist or CG artist but find yourself in the middle of a haystack trying to figure out the best laptop configuration to begin your rendering journey?
Well, look no further, we at Sketchupguru have put in the effort to narrow down the best laptop configuration required to ensure a smooth, hassle-free rendering experience.
At the bottom of the article, you will find the best laptops for Rendering and 3D Modeling in 2022.
Let’s look at each of the important components that make a render-worthy laptop.
1. Graphics cards - RTX 3000 series recommend for Rendering
Graphics card is a hardware which is used to increase the video memory of a computer, and make its display quality more high-definition.
It makes the computer more powerful and gives it the capacity to do more high-level works. The quality of the image depends on the quality of the graphics card
2. Use RTX mode for rendering if you own a RTX graphic card
The RTX mode improves lighting, ambiance and attention to detail. It is not a reshade preset.
Once activated, is is important to note that the mode uses nearly 2GB of extra VRAM. There are other ways to improve the quality of the game’s lighting and shadows as well.
3. Ram - At least 16 GB (recommended for rendering applications)
RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and is used as a short-term memory storage space for the computer to place data it’s currently working on so it’s easily accessible.
The more RAM a computer has, the more data it can usually juggle at any given moment. 16 gigabyte ram is considered efficient for most rendering software.
4. Hard Drive - SSD the preferred way to go
- SSDs in general are more reliable than HDDs.
- SSDs commonly use less power and result in longer battery life because data access is much faster and the device is idle more often.
- With their spinning disks, HDDs require more power when they start up than SSDs.
- A 512 Gb SSD should suffice but higher capacity always comes in handy.
5. Processor- AMD Ryzen 7 or 9 or Intel i9
A processor, or “microprocessor,” is a small chip that resides in computers and other electronic devices.
Its basic job is to receive input and provide the appropriate output. While this may seem like a simple task, modern processors can handle trillions of calculations per second.
As for Ryzen 7 processor it is the answer to customers’ increasing demand for high performance, both in gaming and other CPU-heavy applications, such as 3D modelling and rendering, media encoding, and CAD programs.
It empowers users with customization options, including unlocked multipliers for performance tuning.
Between intel’s i9 processor and AMD’s Ryzen 9 both of which are compelling options . AMD processors seem to have a slight edge in the recent past.

I will get an SDD if I get sketchup. I was going to get an HDD. So I am glad I found this article explaining this.
